Kings Bay

Kings Bay Naval Base, Camden County

Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base represents the legacy of U.S. naval power during World War II.  It is located in southeast Georgia near St. Mary’s.  Commissioned in 1978, this base was the largest construction project by the U.S. Navy during peacetime.

Today, Kings Bay is home to Ohio-class nuclear submarines, which are armed with Trident ballistic missiles.  The base includes facilities for submarine repair, docking, weapons storage, and crew training. It is a highly secure military base, and much of its acreage includes protected wetlands.
