Military Bases in the Piedmont

The Piedmont region contained the greatest number of military bases, including Fort Gillem, Fort Mcpherson, Rickenbacker Field (Dobbins Air Reserve Base), Fort Benning, Fort Gordon, and Robins Air Force Base. The Piedmont region was the most industrial and developed area in Georgia and became an ideal site for military bases to aid the war effort. All of these bases still exist today and have become vital economic centers for Georgians. Towns such as Warner Robins are closely linked with the military bases which provide both a large number of consumers, and a solid income for thousands of servicemen. This map shows the location of military bases that emerged in Georgia during World War II.
